Top 5 Open Goal Misses

Inspired by Fernando Torres' unbelievable open goal miss last weekend, we have compiled a list of the top 5 open goal misses. In reverse order, here's a pick of the bunch!

5). Kevin Kuranyi

We featured Kevin Kuranyi's epic miss in August. Here's a reminder of why he's in our top 5:

4). Diego Forlan

On a pre-season tour to the USA with his Manchester United team, Forlan ran onto a ball following a mix up in the Juventus defence and with the goal at his mercy, he somehow hit the side netting:

3). Yakubu

Needing a win from their final group game at the 2010 World Cup to stay in the tournament, Nigeria found themselves trailing 2-1 to South Korea at the mid-way point of the second half. Then, Yakubu found himself on his own four yards from goal. This tap in would take Nigeria into the next round. Except he did this:

2). Kanu

Another Nigerian, this time Kanu, a journeyman in the English Premier League.
With West Brom 2-1 down to Middlesbrough in the dying minutes at The Hawthorns in 2003, Geoff Horsfield's square ball took out the Boro goalkeeper and four defenders to leave Kanu with the simple task of tapping in the equaliser from one whole yard. But Kanu is on the World Sport Bloopers 'Top 5 Goal Misses' for doing this:

1). Ronny Rosenthal

Israeli striker Rosenthal runs onto David James' long kick before rounding the Villa goalkeeper to put himself in front of an empty net. Here he performs our number 1 open goal miss:

About World Sport Bloopers

World Sport Bloopers was created following the frustration of using video sites. Many offered videos that were filed under 'funny' or 'humor' but were not specific to sport. It required a lot of searching to find what we wanted. Even when you found the video, it was often edited poorly or inserted in a news segment so it had less impact.

World Sport Bloopers is inspired by UK shows like Fantasy Football (hosted by comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner), the eccentric Frenchman Remi Gaillard and US shows like Jackass. We aim to bring you the best bloopers, fails and WTF moments. We hope you enjoy the site!!
