South Africa Qualification Blooper

South Africa have a history of making mathematical errors - their cricket team were dumped out of the 2003 World Cup after miscalculating the Duckworth-Lewis chart (a method of resetting targets in interrupted one-day cricket matches).

South Africa's footballers have followed suit by failing to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations after playing for a draw in a game they had to win!

The team dubbed Bafana Bafana had vuvuzela blowing fans going wild as they celebrated their 0-0 draw at home to Sierra Leone. They thought the draw was enough to take them through on goal difference. They even did a lap of honor for the fans. The entire nation were clearly fooled as the president of the country's Football Association went on national TV to congratulate them.

It was only then they learned that Niger had pipped them to the finals according to their head-to-head record with South Africa.

The reaction of South Africa's coach, Pitso Mosimane: "Africa is a jungle, my friend!"

About World Sport Bloopers

World Sport Bloopers was created following the frustration of using video sites. Many offered videos that were filed under 'funny' or 'humor' but were not specific to sport. It required a lot of searching to find what we wanted. Even when you found the video, it was often edited poorly or inserted in a news segment so it had less impact.

World Sport Bloopers is inspired by UK shows like Fantasy Football (hosted by comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner), the eccentric Frenchman Remi Gaillard and US shows like Jackass. We aim to bring you the best bloopers, fails and WTF moments. We hope you enjoy the site!!
